Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ)  Statement on  Chipolopolo Striker Fashion Sakala

Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ)  Statement on  Chipolopolo Striker Fashion Sakala

We, the Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ), have been deeply disturbed by the recent leaked conversation between Chipolopolo striker Fashion Sakala and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Communications Manager Sydney Mungala. In this conversation, Mr. Sakala expressed his distress over comments allegedly made by Coach Avram Grant, suggesting that the player's exclusion from the team was influenced by his decision not to sign with the coach's agent.

We categorically condemn any form of mistreatment or coercion of players under the guise of football management. It is our firm belief that players should be selected solely based on their merit and performance at their respective clubs, rather than any external influences or affiliations.

The decision-making process regarding player selection must be transparent, fair, and free from undue influence. The allegations that player selection is being manipulated based on agency affiliations are serious and warrant thorough investigation. The integrity of our national team and the trust of the players and the public are at stake.

We are also happy with the prompt manner that the Football Association of Zambia has acted in instituting independent investigations into this matter.

As FAZ conducts this Independent Investigation into allegations made by Fashion Sakala to determine the veracity of the claims and they need to hold accountable any parties found guilty of misconduct.

We urge FAZ to also ensure fair play and transparency through the implementation strict guidelines to ensure that player selection is based solely on performance and merit. These guidelines should be transparent and consistently applied.

FAZ also has to protect player interests: Reaffirm the commitment to the well-being and professional development of our players. Players' careers and safety must be prioritized, ensuring they are free from any form of exploitation or unfair treatment.

FAZ is urged to review coaching conduct and evaluate the conduct of the coaching staff to ensure that all interactions with players are professional and respectful. Coaches should be reminded that their role is to foster the development and success of all players without prejudice.

Fashion Sakala is an inspiration to many young footballers in Zambia and beyond. His willingness to speak out on behalf of his other players and future generations of footballers highlights the need for a supportive and just environment in our football community.

FAWUZ awaits the result of this very important investigation.

If coach Grant is to found guilty then he should immediately step down on moral grounds.

The coaches may come and go, but our players are the heart and soul of Zambian football. We must safeguard their interests and ensure they have a fair opportunity to represent our nation. The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia stands with Fashion Sakala and all other players who are silently suffering under this alleged misconduct.

We support FAZ in resolving this matter and fostering a more equitable football landscape in our country.
