FAWUZ Secures Landmark Victory for Zambian Player against Mozambican Club

Lusaka, Zambia - The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) is pleased to announce a significant victory in the case of Trust Gomezgani Mkandawire against Clube Ferroviario De Maputo of Mozambique.

After tirelessly representing Mkandawire, FAWUZ has successfully secured a favorable ruling from FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber. The decision orders Clube Ferroviario De Maputo to pay Mkandawire MZN 290,323.27 (approximately $4,300 USD) as compensation for breaching his contract without just cause, plus 5% interest per annum from April 26, 2024.

This outcome demonstrates FAWUZ's unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of Zambian footballers and ensuring that clubs honour their contractual obligations.

We applaud Mkandawire's courage in standing up for his rights and thank FIFA for their support in this matter.

FAWUZ Secretary General, Joe Kaunda, stated, "This victory is a testament to our union's dedication to fighting for the rights of footballers. We will continue to advocate for fair treatment and justice for our members, both locally and internationally." Our position is to ensure that the all parties respect contractual obligations and this is the hallmark of professionalism in the game of football. This is not just with the clubs, we have also prevailed on our members to respect their contracts and give the clubs over 100 percent to ensure the success of their   employers and ultimately their careers."
